ARTIST STATEMENT

Théo Viardin's work thrives on dichotomies and contrasts, presenting a coexistence of pessimism and optimism. Rooted in historical human representation and enriched by biopunk anticipation and philosophical insights, his art depicts colossal, vulnerable figures in wasteland settings. These characters reflect the interplay of danger and protection, individuality and community, lightness and darkness. Viardin’s practice meditates on humanity’s end and its transformation, confronting a future shaped by the depletion of Earth's essential resources. His "primitive-future" figures embody both the fragility and resilience of our existence, navigating the tensions between classicism and contemporaneity.
