Aljoscha

Aljoscha, born Oleksii Potupin, is a Ukrainian visual artist known for large-scale conceptual installations, sculptures, interventions, paintings, and drawings rooted in the ideas of bioism, biofuturism, bioethics, and bioethical abolitionism.

Aljoscha

In his practice, the Ukrainian artist based in Düsseldorf, Aljoscha, explores the visual possibilities of synthetic biology and the new aesthetics of biofuturism and bioethical abolitionism. His organic-shaped sculptures, made from acrylic glass and metal, are attempts to map the organic life of the future—something the artist defines as bioism (a term he coined). Aljoscha's highly complex and delicate artworks challenge the classical canon. They seem to evoke the once-popular concept of Bergson's *élan vital*, based on the self-organization and spontaneous morphogenesis of living organisms.
